Arsenal 1 – Liverpool 1
Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw against Arsenal last weekend in the Premier League.
As a result of the weekend’s results, Liverpool are now third in the top flight.
Chelsea are above Liverpool on goal difference, while Man City are two points clear at top of the table.
Jamie Carragher analyses Liverpool’s title hopes
Of course, Man City beat Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium at the start of the league campaign.
So have Liverpool already blown their title hopes?
That issue was analysed by Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football.
Carragher, the former Liverpool centre-half, has tried to counter suggestions that Liverpool have already blown their title hopes:
I think Liverpool supporters, myself included obviously, they’ve got to just relax a little bit.
You’d think Liverpool had lost the league after the game at the weekend because ‘oh it’s two points dropped, Man City are gone two points clear’, there’s a long way to go.
Man City are better than Liverpool, everyone knows that. That doesn’t mean that Liverpool can’t win the league.
I think Liverpool’s hope of winning the league is in the second half of the season if City go far in the Champions League and the whole club focuses on the Champions League and takes their eye off the ball slightly.
Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi
Carragher also had some choice words for Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi.
The Sky Sports pundit highlighted how Mustafi was at fault for James Milner’s goal:
Yes the keeper can do better, but I think Mustafi is more culpable than anyone in terms of his starting position and can he do more to stop the cross?
He’s got to do much more to stop the cross, he doesn’t actually attempt to stop it, throw your leg at it, do something.
