Rodriguez speaks on Everton future

James Rodriguez joined Everton in September of 2020 from Real Madrid.

The signing at the time was viewed as something of a coup for the Toffees, who were no doubt excited to have the Colombian once again honing his craft under decorated boss, Carlo Ancelotti.

And Rodriguez had a solid start to his Everton career, notching five goals and seven assists in his first 18 games:

However, Rodriguez did dip off somewhat in the second half of 2020/21, in part due to fitness issues.

And following Carlo Ancelotti leaving for Real Madrid and Rafa Benitez taking over, Rodriguez’s future at Goodison Park has been called into question.

It was claimed that Everton could sell six senior players as Benitez rebuilds and Rodriguez was named as one player who could indeed be moved on.

And now, Rodriguez has himself spoken out on his Everton future. But despite the season starting in around two weeks, the Colombian seemingly doesn’t know where he will be playing his football come the close of the summer transfer window:

‘I don’t know what’s going to happen.

‘I don’t know, I don’t know where I’m going to play. You know that in football and in life you don’t know anything but all I know is that I’ve been training hard, preparing well, training for myself and that’s it.

‘It’s complicated. Wherever I’m wanted. Someone has to be at a place they’re wanted.’

Everton’s stance of Allan Saint-Maximin transfer revealed

Elsewhere, rumours began to emerge earlier this month that Allan Saint-Maximin was of interest to Everton, with some Newcastle fans fearing he missed their last pre-season clash due to him deciding to move on.

The Frenchman scored three and assisted four in 25 league outings last term and was a key cog in Newcastle’s attack.

However, journalist Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo has now seemingly put the ASM to Everton rumours to bed, stating that:

Sources have rubbished talk of Everton being interested in Allan Saint-Maximin.

It has been no secret that the Blues have badly lacked pace in wide-areas and the hunt for speedy players has been central to the club’s summer plans.

The arrival of Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray has gone some way to helping address some of that imbalance but Everton do want another winger before the close of the transfer window.

But, right now, Saint-Maximin does not appear to be the player they are chasing. Burnley’s Dwight McNeil is seen as Everton’s prime target at the moment.
