James Rodriguez says he was “disrespected” over Copa America decision

James Rodriguez

Rodriguez future

James Rodriguez’s future appears to be at a crossroads.

The Colombian international moved to Everton in the summer of 2020, but struggled for game-time through injury. Making 23 appearances, Rodriguez provided six goals and five assists, but faded as the season ended.

He was subsequently not picked in Colombia’s squad for the upcoming Copa America, staged in Brazil.

And it is safe to say that he was not happy at the decision.

“Yo quería jugar la Copa América con la Selección Colombia. Yo estoy bien para jugar. Es una decisión del cuerpo técnico que no comparto, porque me faltaron al respeto”: palabras de James Rodríguez en un Instagram Live con Camilo Zúñiga y Teófilo Gutiérrezpic.twitter.com/PVMSip7bLE

Speaking on an Instagram live session, Rodriguez said:

“I would have wanted to play the Copa America with Colombia. I’m good to play. It’s a decision made by the coaching staff that I don’t share, because they don’t respect me”.

The Colombian midfielder continued:

“There are many who said that I was not well. I remind those who tell me that I was bad: in the 80 games I played for the National Team, I will have played what … five or 10 poorly. What about the other 70?”

It remains to be seen where James’ future lies, with his favoured coach Carlo Ancelotti leaving Merseyside to rejoin Real Madrid, where he bought Rodriguez from last summer.

However, it appears unlikely that James will be linking up with the Italian again for Los Blancos, even if given the chance. The Colombian said:

“For Real, I believe, it is a closed cycle”

Does this mean that the creative midfielder will end his career in the blue of Everton?
