James Rodriguez in talks with Qatar club to end nightmare Everton spell

James Rodriguez in talks with Qatar club to end nightmare Everton spell

James Rodriguez’s Everton move

Colombian creator James Rodriguez was a clear statement of intent when he was signed from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020. Joining up with former managerial favourite Carlo Ancelotti on Merseyside, who managed him in Spain, Rodriguez hit the ground running.

The former Madrid man hit three goals and three assists in his first six games for the club, helping Everton into an early lead of the Premier League table, and was for all the world looking like a brilliant addition to the Toffees side.

However, it all began to unravel, with James recording just a further 3 goals and 1 assist in the remainder of the 38 game season. By the end, the Colombian had dropped out of Ancelotti’s plans completely, and upon the arrival of Rafa Benitez after Ancelotti rejoined Madrid, there has been no signs of bridges being rebuilt.

Colombian offered a way out

Fortunately for all parties, it appears that James, who is yet to feature this season, has found a way out of the situation. This comes as news broke this morning of the Toffee being in talks with a Qatar side over a potential move away from England.

This would of course help Everton financially, with his £200,000 per week contract currently a noose around their neck.

It would also allow James, now 30, to play enough football to retain a place in the Colombia national team come the 2022 world cup, also staged in Qatar.

The perfect move for all parties?
