James Milner reveals he hasn’t heard anything from Liverpool over a new deal

Klopp on Milner

James Milner is currently 33 years of age.

However, watching him during the 2018/19 season and in Liverpool’s current pre-season, you certainly wouldn’t think that.

While Milner doesn’t have the flair of some central midfielders, he is a tireless workhorse.

Milner is also very versatile, and can fill in at right-back and left-back when required by Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp has recently been full of praise for Milner, and claims that he looks as though he is still in his early 20s:

“His attitude is outstanding. Millie is a sports guy, in each sport he is doing he is brilliant. Without Millie it wouldn’t have been possible.

“His kind of a little bit dirty dressing-room talks, I cannot do, these things you say in the dressing room that I am not allowed to say in public. That’s the last little kick and that’s nice.

“Millie looks again in the pre-season like [he’s in] in his early 20s; but he isn’t, he knows that, and we try to respect that. But he is not only in the game not really stoppable, in training it’s the same. All good.” As quoted by Liverpool’s official website.

Milner has 12 months left

Despite Klopp’s praise and Milner’s importance to Liverpool’s squad, the Champions League holders could be set to lose him in a year’s time.

Milner’s current contract at Anfield runs until July of 2020.

That means that foreign clubs can approach Milner as early as January 2020 to attempt to agree a pre-contract deal for the summer of 2020.

Even though Milner could agree to leave Liverpool in the near future, the club are apparently yet to offer him a new deal.

According to the player himself, Liverpool said no to a new deal around a year ago, and Milner is yet to hear anything else since:

“We spoke to the club a year ago and asked if they wanted to do something and they said not at that time. We haven’t heard anything since.

“All I can do is concentrate on my football and do what I can.” As quoted by the Mirror.
