James Milner reminds Liverpool team mates of amazing Champions League record

James Milner: The assist king!

Who is the top assist provider in the Champions League in 2017/2018 so far?

It must be Leo Messi, or Isco, or Kevin De Bruyne, right? Or, maybe it is Roberto Firmino or Dele Alli?

The surprise answer is James Milner!

And, not only is Milner the top assist provider with six in the Champions League so far, he has also bagged two more than any other player in the competition.

Milner is undoubtedly profiting from some brilliant attackers in front of him. Nevertheless, this is some record to hold in mid-February!

Milner reminds his Liverpool team mates of the record

On Saturday, Jordan Henderson has revealed to the Liverpool website that Milner is rather proud of his Champions League assists record.

Henderson: “He has told a few of us that over the last couple of hours, to be fair! He is a fantastic player. It doesn’t really matter how old he is, he is as fit as anyone and you can see that on the pitch in how much he contributes to the team.”

The Liverpool captain added: “He was brilliant again at Porto. He’s got a lot of assists in the Champions League, so hopefully he can continue it.”

Can James Milner get more than six assists?

With Liverpool 5-0 up from their first leg in Porto, it will be intriguing to see whether Milner plays the second leg in just over two weeks.

After all, that would be a perfect opportunity for Milner to increase his assists tally in the Champions League this season.

Liverpool have Premier League home games against West Ham and Newcastle on consecutive Saturdays before they face Porto on March 6, 2018.
