Does Modric get the praise he deserves?
Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic has claimed that Croatia teammate Luka Modric is now ‘La Liga’s big gun’ after Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid exit.
Modric won UEFA’s award for best male player at the recent Champions League draw.
He has also been shortlisted for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award and should he win that, he could be on for the Ballon d’Or too.
This comes following a brilliant club season with Real Madrid in which he helped Los Blancos win the Champions League.
Even after that, Modric went to the World Cup and guided Croatia all the way to the final.
The midfield star also picked up the award for best player at the tournament despite the loss to France in the final.
Praise from his international teammate
Now, Modric’s international teammate and La Liga rival Ivan Rakitic has made a pretty big claim today.
He has suggested that the Real Madrid man is now ‘La Liga’s big gun’ and currently the best player in the world.
“Luka is now La Liga’s big gun, he is the best player in the world this year and we Croats are very proud of him,” he told Novi list, as cited by Goal.
“I wish him that last prize that is left for him to win [the Ballon d’Or] because he absolutely deserves it.
“Those that are jealous of Luka, let them die in their jealousy!
“I am proud of him and as happy as if I was winning those awards!
“We’ve been together in the national team for 11 years, went through a lot, I love him as my brother.
“I am happy he decided to stay in the national team, I don’t know what my decision would have been if he retired.”
