Ivan Gazidis & AC Milan

One of the weirder stories this summer has been the claim that Ivan Gazidis could leave Arsenal to join AC Milan.

Many influential Arsenal accounts on social media have been reporting in recent days that Ivan Gazidis has agreed to leave the Gunners to join AC Milan.

To be clear, at the time of writing neither Arsenal nor AC Milan have confirmed the Gazidis switch.

Yet, when the likes of Arseblog are claiming the deal has happened, Arsenal fans should be prepared for the announcement to follow.

Gazidis needs to give Arsenal notice

But will Ivan Gazidis be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium?

The Associated Press journalist Rob Harris has made an eye-catching announcement on Tuesday morning.

He’s reported that Gazidis has a one year notice clause in his current Arsenal contract.

To be clear, that means Gazidis will only be able to join AC Milan a year after he informs the club he wants to leave.

Can the parties agree to contract out that clause? For example, would a pay off from AC Milan for Gazidis convince Arsenal to allow their employee to go to the San Siro?

A crazy summer at AC Milan

AC Milan have had a crazy summer behind the scenes Chinese owner Yonghong Li defaulted on his AC Milan debts, and subsequently he’s lost control of the Rossoneri.

US hedge fund Elliott Management Corporation are now in control of the famous Italian giants, and changes are afoot.

It’s widely believed that the Elliott group have earmarked Gazidis as their top candidate for CEO.

Stan Kroenke to own Arsenal

At the same time, the big news on Tuesday morning is that Stan Kroenke is on the verge of almost total control at Arsenal.

Kroenke holds 67% of Arsenal, while the second biggest shareholder is Alisher Usmanov at 30%.

Kroenke has now officially offered to buy out the Russian billionaire in a deal valuing the Gunners at 1.8 billion pounds.

Kroenke will offer £550 million to buy out Usmanov’s stake.

Is Kroenke’s takeover the reason why Gazidis is looking towards the exit door?
