Newcastle vs Arsenal
Sunday’s action in the Premier League kicks off at the St James’ Park.
Barring an implosion of epic proportions, Newcastle will once again be in the Premier League next season. Coming into the Arsenal match, the Magpies are 10th in the league with 38 points from 32 games.
As for Arsenal, the Gunners are sixth in the top flight.
However, with just a few weeks left in the season, Arsenal’s focus is Europe not domestic action.
Arsenal are in the Europa League semifinals. Winning that competition would grant them a place in next season’s Champions League.
The Gunners have been paired with Atletico Madrid in the final four.
Gunners rotation & Islam Slimani
The likes of the Times and the Guardian have tried to predict the line-ups in the Newcastle vs Arsenal match.
Starting with the visitors, Arsene Wenger is set to shake-up his side dramatically against the Toon.
Arsenal will still have significant leaders in their side. Petr Cech, who has attracted critics this season, should start in goal, while Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang will lead the attack.
After missing the CSKA match through illness, Granit Xhaka may return in midfield.
However Wenger may also give Reiss Nelson another chance to impress. Similarly, Alex Iwobi, Calum Chambers and Rob Holding could all start for the Gunners.
As for Newcastle, will Islam Slimani finally start a match for the Magpies?
Signed on loan from Leicester in the January transfer window, Slimani’s Newcastle career has been held up by injury.
Rafa Benitez has named the same starting XI for the last three Premier League matches. But could Slimani be given his shot in attack against the Gunners?
Slimani, who could leave Leicester this summer, has six games to prove his worth at Newcastle.
