Difficult times for Isco
Real Madrid may have qualified from their Champions League group, but after losing 3-0 at home, the fallout is just beginning.
One of the main topics of conversation was Isco seemingly refusing the captain’s armband.

Marcelo was asked about that when in the mixed zone with the press, and confirmed Isco did refuse to take it.
However, he stopped short of explaining why, claiming he didn’t understand.
Isco rejected the armband? There is fire on the mountain…

Marcelo in mixed zone “I tried to give the armband to Isco [on leaving pitch]. But he told me I had to give it to [Dani] Carvajal. I don’t know why.”

A possible reason
There has been a possible explanation for what could have happened.
One Real Madrid account thinks the reason was pre-agreed between Isco and Dani Carvajal.
MARCA: Isco did not take the captain’s armband from Marcelo because he promised he would let Carvajal take it. Isco was captain ahead of Carvajal against Melilla. So Isco promised he could take it when he came on. https://t.co/H2JYR3UgNv

Top of the group
The main thing is of course qualification at the top of the Champions League group.
In theory, that means a favourable draw when it comes to the knockout stages.
Real Madrid will know they have to take their game up a level.

Losing twice in the group stages to CSKA Moscow is far from good enough.
One managerial change is already one too many for a club who want to be competing for trophies.
After struggling badly without Cristiano Ronaldo, they may even dip into the January transfer market.
