Invincible Edu offered key role at Arsenal

Arsenal offer Edu Football Director role

Reports in Brazil have confirmed that Arsenal have made a move to bring back one of their Invincibles to the club.

Brazilian midfielder Edu played for Arsenal from 2001 to 2005 and was a key member of Arsene Wenger’s squad during this period.

Edu is now the Technical Director of the Brazilian national team and is one of the most highly regarded football administrators in South America.

Globoesporte, a very reliable portal for football news in Brazil, reports that Arsenal have offered Edu the opportunity to become Football Director at the Emirates.

Will Edu take the Football Director job at Arsenal?

It is far from clear whether Edu will be taking the job at Arsenal and leaving his role with the Brazil national team.

The CBF – Brazil’s Football Association – have received the offer from Arsenal and are aware that they could lose Edu to the Premier League side.

Edu was part of two Premier League winning sides during his time at Arsenal. The second of which saw the Gunners go unbeaten throughout the 38-game season, in 2003/04.

Since retiring in 2011, Edu has worked at Corinthians and now with Brazil in a Technical Co-ordinator role.

What does the Edu move mean for Arsenal’s January transfer plans?

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Denis Suarez of Barcelona in recent days. Unai Emery worked with Suarez during their time together at Sevilla.

The Gunners may also lose Aaron Ramsey earlier than expected, if they can come to an agreement with Juventus in this window.

This move for Edu suggests that incomings and outgoings could be at a minimum for the Gunners in January, with a plan put in place for the summer, if and when the Brazilian arrives.
