Insight provided into Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siuu’ celebration

Poland manager Paulo Sousa has this weekend provided his take on the iconic celebration coined by Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo on target

CR7 was of course back in action on Saturday night.

Ahead of their only competitive outing of the international break, at home to Luxembourg next Tuesday, Portugal brushed off the rust in a friendly meeting with Qatar – next year’s World Cup hosts.

Fernando Santos’ men actually only faced off against the Asian outfit a little over a month ago, eventually emerging on the right side of a 3-1 scoreline.

And last night proved more of the same for A Selecao, who went on to completely dominate proceedings, on their way to a comfortable 3-0 win.

Jose Fonte and Andre Silva were both amongst the goals, but it was the aforementioned Ronaldo who, true to form, stole the show at the Estadio Algarve.

The 36-year-old opened the scoring on the night, taking advantage of a defensive howler to slot home from close range:

On the back of his latest Portugal goal, meanwhile, it was subsequently revealed that Ronaldo had secured for himself yet another piece of history, in making Qatar his 46th victims on the international stage:

‘I am here’

The Manchester United hitman’s subsequent celebration also caused something of a stir amongst rival fanbases, with Ronaldo, despite the matchup’s friendly status, and the quality of opposition, having not been shy in busting out his trademark ‘Siuu’ shout.

In turn, it feels only appropriate to highlight recent comments on the part of a fellow manager of an international nation, regarding CR7’s celebratory antics.

Speaking in an interview with The Sunday Times this weekend, Poland boss Paulo Sousa, a fellow countryman of the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner, was drawn on Ronaldo’s repeated celebration.

And Sousa went on to reveal his opinion that, in fact, the veteran attacker is intent on making a ‘statement’ to all watching on each and every time he finds the net:

‘I loved his celebration [when Ronaldo ripped his top off after scoring a late winner against Villarreal in the Champions League this season].’

‘The way he commemorates his goals is a statement: ‘I am here’.’
