Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has this afternoon provided updates on the fitness of a number of the club’s stars, ahead of their matchup with Doncaster tomorrow evening.
The Gunners are set to take on their League one opponents in a League Cup clash at the Emirates tomorrow evening, with a number of fringe players expected to be given a run-out by Arsene Wenger.
Speaking earlier today, the French tactician revealed that both Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers will start, confirming that his starting XI ‘will be a similar team to the one that played vs Cologne.’
However, Wenger also confirmed that a number of first-team regulars will not feature due to fitness problems, rather than simply being rested, with both Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil ruled out.
Initial reports suggested that Welbeck, who limped off injured versus Chelsea at the weekend, would be sidelined for at least a month, with Wenger confirming as much this afternoon:
‘[He] has a scan today. We don’t know how bad his groin injury is but he will be out until the international break.’
Ozil, meanwhile, has returned to training, but will not be ready for tomorrow evening. He is suffering with ‘knee inflammation.’
Additionally, forgotten man Mathieu Debuchy ‘is coming back too slowly’ for tomorrow, while midfielder Francis Coquelin, like Welbeck, has been ruled out until at least the international break next month.
