Man United may be without eleven players vs Liverpool
The Times on Thursday outline eleven injury problems facing Man United before the Liverpool game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already confirmed that David De Gea and Paul Pogba – arguably Man United’s two most important players – are injured.
De Gea suffered a groin injury on Spanish international duty in Sweden.
Sergio Romero will deputise against the Reds.
As for Paul Pogba, the outlook is gloomy. The Times reveal:
It is understood that Pogba is still wearing a protective cast around his right foot.
Pogba could be out for another two weeks because of injuries to his ankle and foot.
Sticking with Man United’s creative players, Anthony Martial is still out of action.
Martial, who is approaching two months on the sidelines, is still recovering from a thigh injury.
Jesse Lingard is also likely to miss the Liverpool game. Lingard is nursing a hamstring injury.
Teenage striker Mason Greenwood is also a major doubt to face Liverpool due to a back problem.
Switching to Man United’s defence, Solskjaer’s first choice full-backs are both out.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is yet to train after a bout of tonsillitis, while Luke Shaw isn’t ready to return after hamstring issues.
Completing Man United’s injury list, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are also long-term absentees, Timothy Fosu-Mensah has a knee injury, while Diogo Dalot has a hip concern.
Denis Zakaria linked to Old Trafford
German outlet Bild have claimed that Man United are one of five clubs sniffing around Borussia Mönchengladbach’s defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Zakaria is a 22-year-old Swiss international.
Bild believe that Gladbach could sell Zakaria for 50 million euros – which would make him the most expensive Swiss player ever.
Along with Man United, Tottenham are listed as a possible suitor.
Inter Milan, plus Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, are also supposedly chasing Zakaria.
Zakaria is under contract with Gladbach until 2022.
