Injury doubts for two Arsenal players before AC Milan

Arsenal vs AC Milan

On Thursday night at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal will be looking to complete their Europa League last-16 win over AC Milan.

Arsenal are in the box set to progress to the quarterfinals following a 2-0 win at the San Siro.

Goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey in Italy handed Arsene Wenger a huge win against the Rossoneri.

Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League. Their top four chances seem to be remote.

That means that Arsenal’s best avenue for qualifying for next season’s Champions League would be to win this season’s UEL.

Arsenal 3 – Watford 0

After beating Milan, Arsenal beat Watford 3-0 on Sunday.

Shkodran Mustafi headed Arsenal into the lead from a Mesut Ozil free-kick.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the lead on the hour mark, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed the victory in the closing stages.

Petr Cech also saved a Troy Deeney penalty to record his 200th Premier League clean sheet.

Doubts over Shkodran Mustafi & Mesut Ozil

Ahead of the Milan return leg, the Evening Standard are reporting that Arsenal have injury doubt over Shkodran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil.

Of the two players, the German defender is the more serious case having been subbed out the Watford match in the second half. Readers are told:

Arsenal will assess Shkodran Mustafi’s groin injury on Monday as the defender faces a race to prove his fitness ahead of Thursday’s Europa League return leg with AC Milan.

Ozil picked up a knock in the first half against Watford, however the playmaker was able to complete the 90 minutes.

After the match, Wenger commented that Ozil was “alright”, although his situation will be monitored during the week.

It’s also worth noting that Hector Bellerin (knee) and Nacho Monreal (back) could both be available for selection for the Milan match.
