Injury blow for West Ham ahead of Chelsea clash

West Ham United have this afternoon been dealt an injury blow, during the first-half of the club’s clash with Southampton.

The Hammers and Saints are currently locked in action at the London Stadium, with hosts West Ham playing in their first home fixture since the harrowing scenes in London three weeks ago, which saw the Irons’ faithful turn on their club’s board and players.

Southampton, meanwhile, were enduring major problems of their own, with the club having slipped into the Premier League relegation zone over recent weeks, following a dismal spell of form.

The early proceedings of today’s clash saw West Ham well on top, with David Moyes’ men piling the pressure on their struggling opponents with a pair of goals inside the opening 20 minutes.

Inter Milan loanee Joao Mario grabbed the first for the capital outfit, before Marko Arnautovic made it 2 with just 17 minutes on the clock.

However, it was not all smiles for the Hammers, who were forced into an early change when Michail Antonio pulled up with a hamstring problem:

The seriousness of the injury remains to be seen, but Antonio immediately looks to be in doubt for West Ham’s London derby with Chelsea next weekend.
