Alexis Sanchez scores on Manchester United home debut
It is easy to forget that Manchester United’s new number seven Alexis Sanchez has already played twice for his new club since joining from Arsenal.
Sanchez provided an assist at Yeovil Town in the FA Cup and then was one of a number of anonymous Manchester United stars at Wembley against Tottenham on Wednesday night.
On Saturday, Alexis Sanchez got his first taste of Old Trafford and managed to get on the scoresheet in a typically bustling display.
Manchester United 2 – Huddersfield 0
Manchester United were far from convincing against Huddersfield but they still grabbed all three points.
Increasingly, Huddersfield are showing such little ambition that one goal kills them off effectively from the game.
That opener came at Old Trafford from Romelu Lukaku, who was set up by Juan Mata, ten minutes after half-time.
Midway through the second half, Manchester United won a penalty, via Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean stepped up and scored at the second attempt after an initial save from Jonas Lossl.
Did Alexis Sanchez play well on his Manchester United home debut?
It is fairly hard to criticise Alexis Sanchez after his home debut for Manchester United.
The Chilean played well, in his usual style, but still seems some way off from understanding his new team mates.
During the win over Huddersfield a damning statistic emerged about Alexis Sanchez via the statisticians at Opta:
“32 – Alexis Sanchez has lost possession of the ball more often today than any Manchester United player has in any Premier League game this season. Loose.”
Manchester United fans may argue that Alexis Sanchez needs time to get used to his new team.
Arsenal supporters have taken this stick as a way to beat their former star player…
