Impact of Chelsea’s loss & Liverpool’s win analysed on the Gary Neville podcast

Everton beat Chelsea 2-0

Marco Silva recorded one of his best results on the season on Sunday as Everton beat Chelsea 2-0.

Had Everton not beaten the Blues, calls for Silva’s head may have got louder.

Everton came into the Chelsea game without a home win in over two months.

However goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson sunk Chelsea, as Maurizio Sarri’s side blew the chance to increase pressure on their top four rivals.

On Everton, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville celebrated the win as big moment for their manager.

Neville also discussed his belief that Everton need to sign a number 9 this summer.

And what about Chelsea? Can they still claim a top four spot?

Neville allayed fears that Chelsea have blown their Champions League hopes at Goodison Park.

The talking-head is convinced Chelsea still have a great chance of finishing in the top four.

Liverpool win 2-1 at Fulham

Liverpool beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

A James Milner penalty proved decisive for the Reds, after they let Fulham back into the game.

Ryan Babel took advantage of a rare Virgil Van Dijk error to level the contest after Sadio Mane opened.

As a result, Liverpool have moved two points clear of Man City at the top of the table.

Man City have a game in hand over the Reds.

Gary Neville analysed the impact of Liverpool’s win, saying:

They’ll have known that was a big moment. There will be times where Liverpool drop points before the end of the season, so too will Manchester City I think, but it couldn’t be on Sunday against Fulham.

Manchester City’s game in hand is at Manchester United, at Old Trafford, on April 24. There’s an opportunity for Liverpool here to step clear, with City not catching up for a few weeks, with the added complication of an FA Cup semi-final too. It’s a good thing for Liverpool, I believe.

They had to win today. It wasn’t vintage Liverpool, after the week they’ve had, it would have taken a lot out of them.
