As per a report from the reliable Sam Lee of Goal.com, Ilkay Gundogan is set to reengage in contract talks with Manchester City after the FA Cup final.
28-year-old central midfielder Gundogan has been plying his trade at the Etihad since the summer of 2016, when he made the move to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund.
And the German international has since gone on to endure a somewhat his-and-miss stint in Manchester.
Gundogan’s debut campaign with City was cut short in December of 2016, after a cruciate ligament rupture saw the gifted midfielder sidelined until the ensuing summer.
Last season proved considerably more fruitful for the Bochum youth product, with Gundogan having appeared in 30 Premier League outings.
However, significantly, only half of these came as starts, with Pep Guardiola having generally opted for the likes of Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva when it mattered most.
On the back of a similarly-difficult start to the current campaign, though, Gundogan has gone on to cement himself as an absolutely integral member of City’s star-studded midfield over recent months.

Amid the injury-troubles suffered by both Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho, the German has proven a near ever-present over the second-half of the Citizens’ season, pulling the strings from deep as Guardiola’s men pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title.
In fact, Gundogan even put the finishing touches on City’s remarkable 14-game win streak on Sunday, netting a stunning free-kick to round out a 4-1 win at Brighton.
Gundogan staying put?
And, as per the aforementioned report from Sam Lee, the 28-year-old’s stellar recent form, coupled with an upturn in playing time, have resulted in Gundogan opening to the possibility of penning a new contract with City.
The midfielder’s current deal is set to expire next summer, with Gundogan himself having requested that negotiations between his representatives and the club be put on hold back in March.
As such, the suggestion quickly arose that the Sky Blues may opt to part with the German international in the summer.
But Gundogan is now said to be ready to reengage with the City board, with ‘a willingness on both sides to agree fresh terms’.
