If Man City beat Liverpool to the title, Pep Guardiola threatens to boycott Community Shield

Man City vs Liverpool

If Man City win all their remaining matches in the Premier League, they’ll be crowned champions ahead of Liverpool.

The Sky Blues dropped to second in the table last weekend following Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Southampton.

Liverpool moved two points clear of City, however Pep Guardiola’s charges have a game in hand.

Pep Guardiola threatens to boycott Community Shield

This midweek, however, Liverpool and Man City will be fully focused on the Champions League.

Both sides are in action on Tuesday.

Liverpool take on Porto at Anfield, while Man City take on Tottenham in their brand new stadium.

Guardiola faced the press on Monday before the Spurs game, and the issue of Man City winning the quadruple came up yet again.

Guardiola wondered why everyone keeps talking about Man City winning four trophies and not five. And in doing so, the Man City boss suggested his club should think about boycotting the 2019 Community Shield if they become champions:

Nobody counts it. [Why?] That is the question I would like to have an answer to.

The people say we won one title, so the Community Shield? Maybe it counts for last season, but last season when we went on holiday, it was not in our pocket.

Of course, in Spain, in Germany, where I have been, the Super Cup [a match played between the previous season’s winners of the league and domestic cup] is an important trophy. Always we had the feeling we won two titles this season so far, we have three to play. So that is what we believe. But the people say all the time, ‘Just one title, one title.’ ”

Ok if we are able to beat Liverpool and win the Premier League, next season we are not going to play the Community Shield.

Why? It doesn’t count. It will be longer holidays in summer time, and we will be fresh for the Premier League and Champions League.
