“I would like to see Liverpool add a couple”, Stan Collymore has his say on Jurgen Klopp’s side

Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool’s quiet summer

It was a quiet transfer window on the red side of Liverpool when it came to incomings. Only Ibrahima Konate joined the club, a deal that was wrapped up before the window even opened.

Their focus was seemingly more on sales, with Xherdan Shaquiri, Marco Grujic and several youth players departing the club and bringing in much-needed funds for the club, while Virgil Van Dijk, Allison and Fabinho were all tied down to new contracts.

An injury to Harvey Elliot against Leeds United, however, and the looming departures of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, has left the Reds looking somewhat threadbare in attack, especially with Roberto Firmino still out.

This, plus the failure to replace Wijnaldum this summer (although they signed Thiago last summer) has left fans and onlookers alike questioning whether they should have spent more this summer.

Collymore has his say

It is clear that former forward Stan Collymore certainly falls in this camp too. The former Liverpool forward (who netted 28 times in 64 games for the club) is keen to see more bodies through the door on Merseyside in the coming months.

Speaking to fan site Empire of the Kop, Collymore said:

“For me, I’m very comfortable with what Liverpool have got and I would like to see to Liverpool add a couple, whether it be a couple of really good loans or if anybody is available in the January transfer window,”

“Particularly post-Covid, there are clubs in financial distress – France, Germany, Italy, Spain or Portugal – that you might be able to extricate [players] six or seven months earlier from their clubs.”

Do you agree with the ex-Liverpool man?
