Hungary fan arrested during England game following racist comments to steward

Hungary fan arrested during England game following racist comments to steward

England vs Hungary

England and Hungary faced off in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday evening.

The clash would take place at Wembley and saw England head into the game sat top of Group I.

Hungary, meanwhile, were down in 4th and look very unlikely to qualify for the World Cup in 2020.

Despite this, it would be Hungary who took the lead in the game after Luke Shaw gave away a penalty.

England bounced back shortly before the break via John Stones though.

Hungary fan arrested

Early on in the match, Hungary fans would clash with police in the away end.

The Metropolitan police have since released a statement, confirming that officers entered the away stand to arrest a spectator for ‘racially aggravated public order offence following comments made towards a steward’. And it was their presence which saw what they described as  ‘minor disorder’ break out.

Shortly after the start of tonight’s match at Wembley, officers entered the stand to arrest a spectator for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments made towards a steward.

As the officers made the arrest, minor disorder broke out involving other spectators. Order was quickly restored and there have been no further incidents at this stage.

Hungary fans have a recent history of racist behaviour and had to play behind closed doors after their fans racially abused England players.
