Phil Thompson thinks that Liverpool will go into the Merseyside derby without Mo Salah this weekend, and they will have to find a way to beat Everton without him.
However, Salah will be fit for the Manchester City game because he won’t be risked in this game, and the Sky Sports pundit thinks that Everton will be up for the game.
“Emotionally and physically, Wednesday night would have taken it out of the Liverpool players,” Thompson told Sky Sports.
“Mohamed Salah won’t be risked on Saturday, Sadio Mane took a knock, but Jordan Henderson will certainly be involved after picking up that booking which rules him out of the second leg.
“I’d hope Klopp will still go as strong as he can as Everton will be up for this.
“I don’t think they put in one tackle against Manchester City last week but you can bet your bottom dollar they will be fired up for it.
“I think if we can take the sting out of this game with an early goal then we’ll get a positive result, because if they get frustrated another time then I can see their fans boiling over, so the first goal is going to be crucial but Jurgen Klopp’s selection concerns me.”
While things may be good for Liverpool, both Manchester City and Everton have huge issues.
Everton have been shocking this season, and their summer spending did not help them in any way – and it seems that in terms of the Champions League, City have plenty of problems to navigate as well.
Guardiola’s men are of course 3 goals down and will not only have to score four goals at least if they want to go through, but will also have to make sure they stop Liverpool from getting an away goal.
