Huge boost for Celtic as Man United & Tottenham target signs new contract

Scottish champions Celtic have this evening announced that full-back Kieran Tierney has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

Talented starlet

20-year-old defender Tierney is widely regarded as one of the finest talents to come out of Scottish football over the past decade, with top European clubs the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea having all been linked with moves for him in the past.

Tierney’s most recent ties with a top club came during the summer transfer window, when Manchester United were touted as a potential destinaton for the marauding left-back.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho reportedly watched Tierney in action during Scotland’s World Cup qualifier with England on June 10th, and was said to have been hugely impressed by what he saw.

A £15 million bid was rumoured by several outlets, but a move never came to fruition.

Spurs interest

However, as per a number of reports over recent weeks, Tottenham were said to have jumped to the front of the queue for Tierney, having watched the stopper in action during Celtic’s Champions League qualifying playoff clashes with Astana back in August, as well as their group stage matchup with Bayern Munich two weeks ago.

Mauricio Pochettino had reportedly requested regular updates on the progress of the 8-time capped international, but his efforts look to have been in vain, with Celtic having tonight announced news that will come as music to the ears of their loyal fanbase.

Staying put

Tierney, who has been with Celtic since 2005, has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Glasgow-based outfit, tying him down until 2023.
