Fans of Spanish giants Barcelona have this afternoon been handed a massive boost, with news that the rumours of an apparent knee injury picked up by defender Gerard Pique versus Espanyol were wide of the mark.
The Blaugrana travelled to the RCDE Stadium on Sunday afternoon, looking to extend their already-healthy lead atop the La Liga table.
And an absolute battle between the historical rivals ensued, with dangerous challenges, player bust-ups and a generally hostile atmosphere eventually seeing Barca escape with a 1-1 draw.
At the heart of the majority of the controversy throughout the clash was Barca defender Gerard Pique, who was targeted by large sections of the hosts’ crowd via distasteful chants about both he and wife Shakira.
In the end, though, it was Pique who had the last laugh, as the Spanish international notched his side’s equaliser with 10 minutes to go with a bullet header from Lionel Messi’s cross.
In the aftermath of the matchup, though, rumours began to circulate that Pique had actually picked up a knee injury during the clash, with follow-up reports claiming that the experienced stopper could be set for up to a month on the sidelines.
The concern stemmed from a challenge courtesy of Espanyol striker Gerard Moreno, who arrived late to clatter into Pique’s right leg after the Barca man had cleared the ball towards the final-whistle on Sunday night.
But, as per a huge update since, it has been revealed that Pique in fact took part in a full training session with his Blaugrana teammates yesterday, with the 31-year-old included in Ernesto Valverde’s squad that has travelled to Valencia for the club’s Copa Del Rey semi-final second-leg tonight.
