Huddersfield’s Jan Siewert faces sack after Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace 2 – Huddersfield 0

Huddersfield Town are relegated from the Premier League.

That was confirmed after the Terriers lost 2-0 at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Luka Milivojevic fired Palace ahead from the penalty spot in the 76th minute.

Patrick van Aanholt sealed the win for the Eagles in the final minutes of the match.

Huddersfield’s Jan Siewert faces sack

On Monday morning the Times are reporting that Huddersfield are ready to sack manager Jan Siewert.

Siewert was a surprise appointment after David Wagner decided to leave the Terriers earlier in the season.

Most had assumed that Siewert would be given a free reign until the end of the season.

Huddersfield were already doomed when he took over, so the prevailing opinion was that Siewert would be given time to mould the team before next season’s campaign in the Championship.

However it’s now looking unlikely that Siewert will get that opportunity. The Times reveal:

Jan Siewert’s future at Huddersfield Town is in doubt after their relegation from the Premier League, owing to a collapse of his relationship with the club’s senior players.

The German head coach, who replaced David Wagner in January, is understood to have alienated players with a hardline approach since his appointment, having presided over eight defeats and only one win.

Siewert was given a contract until June 2021 ten weeks ago but it is unclear whether he will stay at the club for next season’s Sky Bet Championship campaign.

In the event that Siewert is sacked, Huddersfield could appoint their under-23 coach Mark Hudson as their new boss.
