How Manchester City signing Julian Alvarez could hand Arsenal a transfer boost
Manchester City’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez could have massive knock-on effects for Premier League clubs including Arsenal this upcoming summer transfer window.
A deal looks close to completion for the Argentine, with reports of an agreement in excess of 16 million euros having been agreed between the Citizens and Argentinian side River Plate.
Manchester City are confident to complete Julián Álvarez signing in the next days. It’s matter of details, taxes and add ons 🇦🇷🕷 #MCFC
River will receive €16m guaranteed plus bonuses [to be discussed] and asked Man City to keep Julián on loan.

This twist comes as Pep Guardiola and co. were expected to challenge for the signature of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland this summer, with Real Madrid and Manchester United also thought to be interested in the star striker.
And while that may remain the case, in Argentinian forward Alvarez they have yet another addition to a front-line that now boasts Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, as well as young talents Cole Palmer and Kayky.
Should Alvarez not be the main striker Manchester City add this summer, this would leave up to 10 players fighting it out for three forward spots, although Bernardo Silva has also been a hit in central midfield.
Julian Alvarez is not seen as a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero at #ManCity just yet – any move would not affect their interest in a move for Harry Kane or Erling Haaland in the summer.

Still, it seems as if something may have to give, and that man could be Raheem Sterling, who was linked with a move away earlier this season.
Sterling reunited with Arteta?
While Raheem Sterling is now playing regularly, in a Pep Guardiola side there is no guarantee that remains the case for the longer term.
And as reported by the reliable Sam Lee, the Englishman has no plans to renew his contract, which expires in June 2023. Should he not renew, Manchester City would likely be keen to offload the 27-year-old in the summer, while he still holds some value.
The latest news on Sterling’s contract is… there is no news. But…
▪️Asked for a loan in September
▪️Much happier now than in recent months
▪️ Won’t renew if he’s not playing and it’s too soon to know if he’ll stay in the team

And if playing time is a key concern of Sterling’s, then a move to Arsenal can’t be ruled out. Of course, the Englishman is already familiar with Mikel Arteta, while the Gunners are in need of additions in the wide areas.
With Barcelona and Juventus in financial distress, Manchester United ruled out for obvious reasons, Real Madrid focused on signing Kylian Mbappe and Haaland and Bayern Munich already well-stocked in the wide areas, is it as inconceivable as first thought?
