How Leo Messi is allegedly trying to influence Neymar’s transfer from PSG to Barcelona

PSG’s Neymar & Barcelona

On Tuesday, leading Brazilian website Globo told their readers that Neymar is “close” to leaving PSG to return to Barcelona.

Globo further stated that Barcelona are keen on Neymar’s return and that “negotiations are well underway.”

Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona back in 2017.

The Brazilian’s move cost PSG 222 million euros, which made the forward the world’s most expensive transfer.

Neymar agreed a five-year deal with PSG.

However, Neymar’s future in Paris has been plunged into doubt in recent days.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG’s president, has indicated to France Football that the time may be right for Neymar to leave the club:

Nobody forced him to sign here. Nobody pushed him. He came knowingly to join a project.

If they don’t agree with our point of view, the doors are open. Ciao!

I no longer want to have superstar behaviour.

How Leo Messi is trying to influence Neymar’s transfer

Spanish paper El Mundo have claimed that Leo Messi, who is currently at the Copa America with Argentina, is trying to insist on Barcelona’s move for Neymar.

Messi is alleged to have told the Barcelona board that they should press ahead with the Neymar deal.

In particular, Messi has supposedly spoken to Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu about sanctioning Neymar’s Camp Nou comeback.

What about Antoine Griezmann’s move to Barcelona?

Earlier in the summer, it seemed likely that Antoine Griezmann would join Barcelona from Atletico Madrid.

However, not much has happened regarding Griezmann’s possible Camp Nou switch.

And, should Neymar rejoin the Catalans, it’s doubtful whether Barcelona would sign Griezmann too.

In an eye-catching suggestion, El Mundo actually believe that Griezmann could play a key role in Neymar’s move back to Barca.

El Mundo suggest that Barcelona could transfer a pre-contract agreement made with Griezmann to PSG, as a way of convincing PSG to sell.

For the record, Atletico CEO Gil Marin revealed last week that Griezmann and Barcelona have had an agreement in place since March.

Whether Griezmann would be happy with joining PSG rather than Barcelona remains to be seen.

Could Antoine Griezmann still join Barcelona?

Yes, reports Fabrizio Romano on Instagram.

The journalist has told his followers that Griezmann “expects the agreement with Barca will be respected.”

How else could Barcelona structure a deal to sign Neymar?

Returning to Globo’s report from Tuesday, the Brazilian outlet considered whether Barcelona could attract Neymar from PSG by offering 100 million euros plus “a few players”.

The names touted as part of the possible deal include Samuel Umtiti, Ousmane Dembélé and Ivan Rakitic.
