How Joe Cole convinced Eden Hazard to join Chelsea

Ex- Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole has on Tuesday announced his retirement from football.

Cole played 280 games in all competitions for Chelsea, in which he scored 40 and assisted 42.

As well as being a key player for Chelsea, Cole would also enjoy a loan spell in France with LOSC Lille.

It would be during this spell that Cole would meet and play with now Chelsea star, Eden Hazard.

Now that Cole has retired, the Belgian has revealed that Cole played a role in convincing Hazard to join Chelsea

When speaking to Chelsea’s Twitter account Hazard stated:

“I spoke to him before I signed for Chelsea. Every day, seriously, he was telling me that Chelsea was the best club for me.

“He said Chelsea was a big club where you can win trophies every season. For that reason I signed, so thank you, Joe Cole!”

Eden Hazard’s excellent 2018/19 Premier League season

Hazard would join Chelsea in the summer of 2012 from Lille.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge Hazard has become a top Premier League player.

This season, however, under Maurizio Sarri, Hazard has taken his game to the next level.

In 11 Premier League appearances Hazard has scored seven and assisted four.

Hazard was also key to Chelsea coming from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 in the League Cup.

The Chelsea winger is now currently on international duty with Belgium.
