How Arsenal's fans took aim at Emi Martinez during Aston Villa clash

The away support in attendance at Arsenal's meeting with Aston Villa made use of the opportunity to poke fun at former Gunners shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez, it has been revealed.

Argentine no.1 Martinez, of course, was afforded his latest start up against his former club by Villans boss Steven Gerrard on Saturday afternoon.

This came as Mikel Arteta's troops made the trip to Villa Park, in desperate search of all three points amid the club's ongoing pursuit of a Premier League top-4 berth.

Martinez, for his part, has long been in possession of something of a fractured relationship with the Arsenal faithful, owing to a lengthy string of comments regarding his treatment at the club across an 8-year stint in north London.

It therefore didn't come as a massive surprise when those of a Gunners persuasion in the stands at Villa Park opted to take firm aim at their one-time goalkeeper throughout proceedings, courtesy of the following chant:

Saka strikes

Turning attentions back towards the outcome on Saturday afternoon, it was of course Arteta and co. who ultimately had the last laugh, to emerge from the west Midlands with a 6th win in seven.

A solitary goal, netted by Bukayo Saka on the half-hour mark, proved the difference between the two sides upon the full-time whistle ringing out:

Arsenal, in turn, have climbed a full four points clear of 5th-placed Manchester United in the Premier League table, as the Gunners continue to justify their tag as heavy favourites to clinch the English top-flight's final Champions League berth.
