Ajax’s David Neres & Everton
Everton fans will no-doubt have come across rumours, suggesting that the Toffees could sign Ajax’s David Neres this summer.
Neres became a household name around Europe as Ajax reached the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals.
22-year-old Neres has scored 23 goals for Ajax in two seasons.
Neres, who is now on international duty with Brazil at the Copa America, has recently discussed his Ajax future:
Of course, the Premier League interests me. It’s the best league in the world, and I’ve always wanted to play there. But I leave all that in God’s hands.
I still have a contract and at the moment I’m only thinking of the national team, I will see what I’ll do in the future. I don’t know what the other Ajax players will do.
Neres is under contract with Ajax until 2022.
How Ajax plan to keep David Neres
Leading Brazilian website Globo have an update on Ajax, Everton and David Neres this Monday.
Globo note that Everton, along with PSG, have shown interest in signing Neres this summer.
However, Globo also report that Ajax are trying to convince Neres to stay in the Dutch capital.
Ajax have the following plan to retain Neres: firstly, offer the attacker a pay-rise, and secondly, offer Neres an exit clause to leave Ajax in 2020.
In addition, Globo claim that Ajax believe they can hold onto Neres, as the club will likely sell Matthijs de Ligt.
The funds received from any de Ligt deal will help to pay for the proposed salary increase for Neres.
Richarlison recruiting David Neres
For the record, Everton’s Richarlison has confirmed that he’s spoken to David Neres about moving to Goodison Park:
I’ve spoken to him about it already. I told him the doors are open for him there, and that he could help us a lot.
I hope he comes. He’d be very welcome there. I’ve known him since we played together for Brazil’s U20 side, and he’s a guy I get along with really well. Hopefully I’ll see him there.
