Harry Kane celebrates v West Ham

Here’s what Spurs are prepared to offer Dele Alli in new contract

Spurs contract offer

Tottenham are set to offer Dele Alli a new contract in the hope of hanging on to the rising star, the Telegraph reports. The midfielder has a deal until 2022 with the club but is on a low wage by Premier League standards.

One of the best players in the division last season, Alli scored 18 goals as Spurs finished second to Chelsea. He’s one of the club’s most important players and is the foundation of their aims going forward, along with Harry Kane.

While Kane was recently given a pay hike to £100,000-a-week, Alli is currently earning half of that.

Currently in the process of changing agents, Alli’s time as Rob Segal’s client will soon come to an end. Whoever wins the race to represent Alli may offer him a pitch about unimagined riches that await him.

In that likely event, Spurs’ £80,000-a-week proposal will come up short. For perspective, one of the best-paid players in the league in Paul Pogba and he’s on around £300,000-a-week. While Alli has clearly thrived under the Spurs system, he may think that he’s not being paid what he deserves, the going rate for world-class talent.

Ill-disciplined

Many believe that this distraction is what’s behind Alli’s subdued performances in recent weeks. The 21-year-old has been hit with disciplinary problems for club and country. He’s serving a ban for England for an inappropriate gesture and a Champions League ban for a horrific tackle. There was also his horrendous dive against Huddersfield.

World Cup factor

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked to Dele Alli and a good World Cup next year could really kickstart a campaign to bring him to Spain. Madrid have a history of signing players on the back of international tournaments.

James Rodriguez arrived after the last World Cup, not that that worked out too well for him.
