Here’s why drawing Rostov in the UEL is bad for Manchester United

Formidable Rostov

While Manchester United fans will be happy to have avoided the likes of Lyon and AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League, the fact that they were drawn against Rostov could be much worse for the Red Devils. For one, they’re actually pretty good at home in Europe this season. They’ve scored four in wins over Ajax and Sparta Prague.

They even beat Bayern Munich 3-2 on their way out of the Champions League group stages. They’ve only lost once at home in their last 35 games, that was to Atletico Madrid. United are going to have to bring their A-game.

Travelling to Russia

But Jose Mourinho, who has complained about fixture congestion before, will be unhappy about having to travel to Russia for the first leg on March 9. That’s a round trip of more than 3,000 miles with an FA Cup fixture against Chelsea on March 13. Luckily for United, they have plenty of strength in depth.

However, they’ll still be expected to win the European fixture.
