Henrikh Mkhitaryan & Mesut Ozil face Arsenal chop

Arsenal’s summer transfer plans

The Mirror on Wednesday have delved into how Arsenal may act in the summer transfer window.

Unai Emery is approaching the end of his first season with the Gunners, and the Spaniard is doing well.

Arsenal are fourth in the Premier League, and in the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

Heading into the business end of the season, Emery has the potential to finish the year of a major high.

The transition from Arsene Wenger was always set to be bumpy, but Emery appears to be on the right course.

He’s now looking to revamp the squad in the summer, and players could be heading out the door.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan & Mesut Ozil

The Mirror claim that Emery is ready to sell both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil.

Mkhitaryan’s name is sure to raise eyebrows, after the Armenian joined from Man United just over a year ago.

The 30-year-old has scored six goals and chipped in with four assists in 18 games this season.

Mkhitaryan is under contract until 2021. However the Mirror report:

Attacking midfielder Mkhitaryan is one of Arsenal’s highest earners on £180,000 per week, and only arrived last January.

But, as with £350,000 a week World Cup winner Ozil, new boss Unai Emery believes Mkhitaryan’s salary could be better spent elsewhere as he bids to reshape his squad.

News that Emery isn’t a fan of Ozil will surprise fewer people.

Ozil has struggled to get into Arsenal’s team for large chunks of the season.

Unhelpfully, the Mirror fail to state which clubs could be interested in signing Mkhitaryan and/or Ozil.

Finding clubs willing to take these well-paid midfielders is unlikely to be straightforward.

Arsenal vs Newcastle

After a trip to Dubai during the international break, Arsenal take on Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium on Monday.

Arsenal have four wins and a draw in the last five league matches.

Newcastle are also on the up. The Magpies, 13th in the table, have three wins in their last five.
