Henderson would only remain at Man United next season if he is first-choice keeper – MEN

Henderson impresses for Sheffield United

Dean Henderson has spent the last two seasons honing his craft with Sheffield United.

The Manchester United youth product joined the Blades on loan at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign.

Henderson instantly cemented himself as Sheffield United’s main shot-stopper, playing every minute of league action as they went on to secure promotion to the English top-flight.

Chris Wilder’s side also boasted the joint-best defence in the Championship last season, conceding 41 goals in 46 outings.

Henderson would then return to his parent club, Man United, over the summer, before once again being loaned out to Sheffield United.

And despite the Yorkshire outfit now plying their trade in the Premier League, Henderson has still been extremely impressive.

The 22-year-old has notched 23 PL appearances this season, only missing one tie, against Man United.

And much like last campaign, Sheffield United’s defence has been rock-solid.

Only table-topping Liverpool have conceded fewer goals than Sheffield United in the Premier League this campaign.

Will Henderson stay at Man United?

Given how impressive Henderson has been whilst on Sheffield United’s books, Manchester United will likely be keen to retain the England international’s services for as long as possible.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Henderson has no intention of returning to United next season just to compete for the number one goalkeeping spot with David de Gea.

De Gea hasn’t been in the best form for the last year or so, but he is contracted to the Red Devils until 2023, and is said to be earning £300,000-per-week. As a result, it is hard to see anyone wanting to sign the Spaniard in the near future.

But, as the MEN claim that Henderson is only interested in remaining at United next season if he is appointed their first-choice goalkeeper, could the Manchester powerhouse be set to lose their promising young shot-stopper?
