Droves of Chelsea supporters have tonight taken to Twitter to highlight an exchange between Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso, during the Blues’ loss to Tottenham.
Tottenham vs Chelsea
The London rivals met at Wembley this evening in the first-leg of their League Cup semi-final tie.
Both sides headed into proceedings on the back of FA Cup victories in their respective last outings.
Spurs put 7 past a hapless Tranmere Rovers side, with Chelsea having followed suit by making short work of Nottingham Forest in a 2-0 win.
Kane the difference-maker
And one goal was all that separated the capital giants at full-time tonight.
After Kepa Arrizabalaga felled Harry Kane in the Chelsea box with 25 minutes on the clock, Michael Oliver’s consult with VAR saw Tottenham awarded a penalty.
And Kane dusted himself down to convert the ensuing spot-kick with minimal fuss, a strike which eventually proved the difference between the sides.
Chelsea, to their credit, dominated possession for long stretches and will no doubt feel aggrieved not to have picked up at least a draw ahead of the tie’s second-leg in 2 weeks’ time.
However, aside from Eden Hazard and, on occasion, Callum Hudson-Odoi, the Blues lacked any real cutting edge this evening.
Marcos Alonso was one individual to have come in for heavy criticism for his showing, with the Spaniard having been wasteful in possession and lacklustre with his crossing.
And one particularly disappointing moment on Alonso’s part deep into the second-half saw Blues’ teammate Eden Hazard visibly showcase his frustration, after the former first ignored Hazard’s pleas for the ball, then elected to pass it to the Belgian after the Chelsea attacker had been surrounded by Tottenham players, and, incredibly, then went on to miss Hazard with a simple pass just seconds later.
‘Visibly tired of Alonso letting him down’
Chelsea’s fans were clued in to the incident, with many having since taken to Twitter to express their concern with just how genuinely fed up Hazard looks with his Spanish teammate:
I just witnessed Marcos Alonso wave off an open Hazard when he asked for a pass, followed by Alonso laying it off when Hazard was picked up by two men

Hazard’s quite clearly had enough of Alonso!

Can see how visibly annoyed hazard is when playing with Alonso, so many poor choices.

Hazard visibly tired of Alonso letting him down today. He’s wanted the ball off him so many times and not received it. #TOTCHE

It’s clear Hazard hates playing with Alonso.

One of these days I won’t be surprised Hazard will take off his jersey and fight Alonso on the pitch. What a twat

Marcos Alonso will force Eden Hazard to Real Madrid. Playing with Alonso is torture.
