Hatem Ben Arfa mocks Unai Emery after Rennes 3-1 Arsenal

Ben Arfa reignites feud with Emery

Rennes midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has trolled former boss Unai Emery after his side lost 3-1 to Rennes in the Europa League on Thursday.

Ben Arfa’s troubles with Emery go way back.

The French attacking midfielder was frozen out by the current Arsenal boss during their time at Paris Saint-Germain together.

Tensions between them grew so bad that Ben Arfa reportedly told Emery in 2017 ‘that he would never pass the quarter-finals of the Champions’ League, even with the best team in the world.’

Safe to say, their relationship didn’t improve and Ben Arfa ran his contract down at PSG before leaving to join Rennes for free.

Though, Ben Arfa and Unai Emery came face to face once again as Arsenal took on Rennes in the Europa League this week.

Ben Arfa’s Rennes came out on top, winning the game 3-1, much to the displeasure of the Arsenal fans.

Some fans even hurdled abuse at the Arsenal players in the airport on the way home.

After the game, Ben Arfa moved to mock his former manager.

‘I looked over at him a few times and that made me laugh a little. He hasn’t changed.’

The midfielder admitted that he looked over at Emery ‘a few times’ during the clash, laughing at him for being agitated.

“My motivation was to play a solid match, to win and get ourselves into a good position to go through,” Ben Arfa explained after the game, as cited by Sky Sports.

“That’s what was in my head. But I did see the same Emery, as agitated as ever. I looked over at him a few times and that made me laugh a little. He hasn’t changed.

“I told some friends before the match that my prediction was that we would win 3-1 or 4-1. We didn’t manage to get the fourth but my prediction was right.”
