Hasenhuttl gives updates on four Southampton players before Man City

Man City vs Southampton

Southampton are set to face Manchester City for the second time in the space of a week on Saturday.

The Saints took on Pep Guardiola’s men on Tuesday in the League Cup, and were handed a 3-1 defeat.

Ralph Hasenhuttl must now take his side to the Etihad for a Premier League clash.

Southampton’s recent league form is pretty dismal, with their last PL tie having seen Leicester put them to the sword by nine goals to nil.

The Saints have also won just two league ties in the 2019/20 campaign, with their last victory having come back on September 14th vs Sheffield United.

The only positive that Southampton can really take into the weekend is that both their league wins this season have come away from St. Mary’s.

As for Man City, they are still trying to close that six-point gap between themselves and Liverpool.

Liverpool will face off with Aston Villa this weekend.

Hasenhuttl on Djenepo, Cedric, Boufal & Redmond

Ahead of their latest clash with Man City, Ralph Hasenhuttl held his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

During the presser, Hasenhuttl gave updates on four Southampton players.

The Saints boss confirmed that both Moussa Djenepo and Cedric Soares are back in training, but the weekend’s game may be a bit early for them:

“They trained today, the first time with the team. This is positive. Moussa was very very positive, immediately laughing on the pitch. He has such a positive nature, it’s fantastic.

“I’m happy that they are both back. It’s probably a little bit too early for the weekend because today was only a light session. But the game after they are an option, yes.” As quoted by Southampton’s official website.

Hasenhuttl also spoke about Sofiane Boufal and Nathan Redmond:

“Sofiane [Boufal] had a slight problem with his knee after the midweek game and Reddie [Nathan Redmond] also, but they are okay and are both options for the weekend.” As quoted by Southampton’s official website.
