Harvey Elliott pens first professional contract with Liverpool/Jurgen Klopp reacts

Premier League champions Liverpool have confirmed that youngster Harvey Elliott has put pen-to-paper on a professional deal with the club.

Reds switch

On the back of mounting speculation over the course of the summer, prodigious starlet Elliott made the move to Liverpool in July of last year.

After making his way through Fulham’s youth ranks, the English wide-man broke into the first-team ranks of the capital outfit last season.

This subsequently saw Elliott make his senior bow at the tender age of 15, in a League Cup meeting with Millwall.

The gifted teen then went on to become the youngest-ever player to feature in the Premier League, after being introduced as a late substitute versus Wolves.

As such, it goes without saying that Elliott was viewed as an absolute star in the making at Craven Cottage.

Unfortunately for the Cottagers, though, the English U17-international’s breakthrough season also saw him emerge as a target for some of English football’s top clubs.

This eventually led to Elliott being coaxed away from Fulham by the wide-man’s most-insistent suitors, Liverpool:

Elliott staying put

Elliott, now 17, has unsurprisingly since largely struggled for first-team opportunities during his debut season at Anfield.

Though the gifted attacker has managed 8 appearances across all competitions, just 2 of these came in the Premier League, for a grand total of 7 minutes.

This of course comes with Elliott lining out in the same position as star Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

As outlined above, though, such competition evidently does not concern the former Fulham man.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms this afternoon, Liverpool confirmed that Elliott has opted to pen his first professional contract with the club, ahead of continuing his development on Merseyside.

The teen has committed to the Premier League champions until 2023:

On the back of the news surrounding Elliott’s future being made official, meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has since expressed his excitement at the prospect of the starlet ‘achieving his football dreams’ with Liverpool.

Speaking to the club’s official website a short time ago, Klopp explained:

‘Brilliant news – really happy.’

‘Harvey is such an exciting prospect. We all know his qualities – we have seen them this season in the first team and U23s.’

‘I love his attitude – love his enthusiasm – love his bravery – love the fact he has the right amount of football confidence and cheekiness.’

The Reds boss continued:

‘He is young and he is in the early stages of his development still.’

‘What is great is that he has the perfect culture here and we will protect him. The senior players and the coaches really care about him and are as excited as I am about his future. So, we will all be part of his story as it unfolds.’

‘He wants to achieve all his football dreams at LFC. Brilliant. Because of his commitment to us, with this contract, we have a chance to see if we can achieve this together.’
