A number of reports across the English media this evening suggest that Harry Maguire has informed both Brendan Rodgers and his Leicester teammates of his desire to move on, amid mounting links to Manchester United.
United’s defensive struggles
On the back of a hugely-underwhelming campaign last time out, Ed Woodward and co. are currently in the process of rebuilding the Manchester United squad.
One area of particular concern for the Red Devils throughout 2018/19, meanwhile, was the club’s shaky backline.
The latest in a string of disappointing respective individual seasons from the likes of Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Eric Bailly saw United struggle to hold opposing sides at bay on a near-weekly basis.
This eventually resulted in the Manchester giants conceding a hefty 54 league goals, the most of the English top-flight’s top 9 clubs, and more than a United side had ever previously conceded during a Premier League campaign.
If ever you wanted to know how bad things are at United, a defender has just won our Player of the Year in the same season we’ve conceded the most goals we’ve ever conceded in the history of the Premier League.

As such, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have since inevitably been linked with a number of potential defensive reinforcements.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has of course already made the move to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace.
And next on the wishlist of the United hierarchy is said to be a central defender.
To this point in the summer, the stopper most persistently-linked with the Red Devils has been Leicester City stalwart Harry Maguire.
Foxes’ star man Maguire was also named as a prime target for United last summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly just as big a fan of the talents of the English international as predecessor Jose Mourinho.
‘Wants to leave’
Rumours of a deal to send Maguire to Old Trafford, meanwhile, kicked up a notch yesterday afternoon.
A pair of reports insisted that an agreement had been reached between United and Leicester, worth a potential £80 million:

And this has been followed by further claims this evening, suggesting that Maguire has taken his future into his own hands.
According to both Sky and the Telegraph’s John Percy, the 26-year-old has informed Leicester of his intention to move on:
Sky sources: Harry Maguire has told Brendan Rodgers and his Leicester teammates that he wants to leave the club this summer.

Can confirm Harry Maguire has told #lcfc management and players he wants to pursue a move to #mufc or #mcfc if the valuation (£80m-£90m) is met. Leicester expect him to be professional if a move doesn’t materialise before the transfer deadline
