An interesting statistic surrounding Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has emerged on the back of the Red Devils’ lackluster 0-0 draw with Leeds United on Sunday.
Leeds 0-Manchester United 0
Man United and Leeds of course have a fierce rivalry, which laid dormant for many years as the Peacocks remained in the Championship.
However, after Marcelo Bielsa’s men secured promotion last year, supporters of the two clubs were no doubt desperate to see their sides face off once more.
Fans, of course, have been unable to attend the games this season. But that did not stop the two clubs from producing an absolute spectacle in their first meeting back in December. The clash at Old Trafford saw the hosts come away with a staggering 6-2 victory.
So, even neutrals were no doubt eager to see the two sides clash again on Sunday.
However, when all was said and done at Elland Road, we were instead subjected to a rather dismal 90 minutes, which eventually finished with the score at 0-0.
The point gained, in terms of the league table, also did little for either outfit, with Man United still sitting comfortable in 2nd. Leeds did move above Arsenal into 9th, though European football remains a serious long shot at this point.
Harry Maguire equals Man United record
As mentioned above, perhaps the most noteworthy takeaway from Sunday’s game came in the form of a stat surrounding Harry Maguire.
Maguire has of course been a key figure in Manchester United’s backline since his move from Leicester.
And, after starting vs Leeds, it was revealed by Opta that the stopper hasn’t missed a single minute of the Reds’ last 71 Premier League matches, equalling Gary Pallister’s club record in the competition, among outfield players:
71 – Harry Maguire hasn’t missed a single minute of @ManUtd‘s last 71 Premier League matches, equalling Gary Pallister’s club record in the competition among outfield players (Nov 1993-May 1995). Everpresent.
