Harry Kane starts on bench with Gareth Bale not in Spurs squad to face Everton

Harry Kane starts on bench with Gareth Bale not in Spurs squad to face Everton

Mourinho leaves Bale out

As Tottenham fans Chas and Dave used to sing: “It’s lucky for Spurs when the year ends in One”, and Jose Mourinho has selected a strong team for tonight’s FA Cup fifth round meeting with Everton, despite his side’s upcoming trip to Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday night.

One name missing from the starting line-up, though, is Harry Kane, as he is eased back into action after starring in a 2-0 win over West Brom at the weekend. Steven Bergwijn comes in to the starting line-up.

The only other change to Spurs’ side from Sunday is Matt Doherty coming in for the injured Serge Aurier, a switch that was expected.

One name missing from the visitors’ squad entirely this evening is Gareth Bale, who isn’t injured. Patience may be running thin with the Real Madrid loanee, and it could be his turn to face the Jose Mourinho treatment.

Dele Alli does return to Tottenham’s matchday squad for the trip to Goodison Park, in what will no doubt be viewed as a boost:

“Dele trained yesterday and well. Long time away. Can he play tomorrow? I don’t know. Not injured but not fit. Can he help us? To have him on the bench, it’s something I’ll have to ask him. I think he can,” said Mourinho ahead of the match.
