Harry Kane speaks about Golden Boot after World Cup exit

Not the point

Harry Kane has claimed he would be happy to win the Golden Boot – but that’s far from what he came for when going to Russia.

The player noted that the individual award is an honour, but that he wanted England to go on and win the whole competition, so it feels quite hollow.

Standard Sport report he said: “If I get the Golden Boot, I get the Golden Boot, but that wasn’t the trophy I was looking for.

“We know we have done everybody proud but we wanted to go on.”

New generation

The England players are the new generation – and many people have noted that it’s the first time England have looked as though the players are really united and actually care about the side.

It had been the case that club was preferred over country in the past for players, who would hold themselves back for England – and would certainly fall apart at times. However, this England side have managed to get deep into the competition and also won a penalty shootout – a huge achievement.

Not to mention the fact that the fans are all united and behind the players – having hope for the first time in a very long time.
