Harry Kane passes Alan Shearer, closes on record-holding Man United legend with goal vs Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has this evening etched his name ever further into the history books of the Premier League.

Spurs on top

Nuno Espirito Santo and co. are of course currently locked in action.

In the club’s first outing on the back of the international break, Spurs made the trip to St. James’ Park, for a meeting with newly-minted Newcastle United.

The clash represents the first in a new era on Tyneside, after long-time owner Mike Ashley agreed to sell his majority stake in the club to a staggeringly wealthy Saudi-based consortium.

In turn, ahead of kick-off on Sunday, the atmosphere around St. James’ was of an understandably electric nature.

The visitors, however, have since gone about putting a firm damper on an otherwise special day for all associated with Newcastle.

After the Magpies opened the evening’s scoring inside two minutes courtesy of Callum Wilson, Tottenham soon hit back in devastating fashion, levelling through Tanguy Ndombele, before claiming the lead when Harry Kane lifted a clever finish over the onrushing Karl Darlow:

And the onslaught has since only continued, as Heung-min Son – following a lengthy stoppage in play owing to a medical emergency in the crowd – slotted home from close range to send Nuno and co. in at the interval two goals to the good.

Rooney eyed

In the process of putting Spurs back in front, meanwhile, as alluded to above, star hitman Harry Kane managed to etch his name ever-deeper into the history books of the Premier League, too.

This comes with the English international’s strike on Sunday (rubbing further salt into the wounds of the Magpies) having seen him surpass Newcastle icon Alan Shearer as the outright 2nd-top goalscorer of all-time in Premier League away games.

Next in the 28-year-old’s sights? Ex-Manchester United hitman Wayne Rooney, now just six goals clear of Kane…
