Harry Kane matches and surpasses Rooney & Henry to set new PL record

Tottenham’s blistering opening to the club’s meeting with West Ham this evening has seen Harry Kane etch his name into the history books of the English top-flight.

Firing on all cylinders

Jose Mourinho’s men are currently locked in derby action with the Irons at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Spurs of course entered proceedings with spirits high, on the back of some stellar work on the transfer front this summer, and a stunning 6-1 win over Manchester United prior to the international break.

And to say that the Lilywhites have since carried such form into this evening’s exchanges would be putting it lightly.

Tottenham currently hold a 3-goal advantage over West Ham, on the back of a blistering opening quarter of an hour.

The hosts took the lead inside the opening 60 seconds, when a wonderful through ball from Harry Kane picked out Heung-min Son, who went on to slot into the far corner in clinical fashion.

And, just 7 minutes later, it was 2.

The roles were reversed on this occasion, as Son laid the ball off to Kane on the edge of the box, with the in-form English international having nutmegged Declan Rice to open up the space, before lashing home beyond the wrong-footed Lukasz Fabianski.

Then, just when things looked as though they couldn’t get any more one-sided, Spurs struck once more.

Kane was again the man on target, leaping highest to nod home Sergio Reguilon’s pinpoint delivery from the left:

Kane making history

And, as outlined above, whilst his contributions this evening have of course proven integral from a collective standpoint, Kane’s brace, and assist, have since seen the prolific hitman etch his name indelibly into the history books of the Premier League.

In setting up Son for Spurs’ opener, Kane joined Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney as one of only three players to have directly contributed to 10 goals across his side’s first 5 league outings of a season:

His ensuing double, meanwhile, saw the 27-year-old move clear as the only player to have racked up 12 goals and assists across the same span:
