Hammer blow for Arsenal as Bernd Leno stretchered off vs Brighton/Gunners star fumes with Neal Maupay

Bernd Leno accuses Neal Maupay

Arsenal’s incredible run of bad luck on the injury front has continued this afternoon, after goalkeeper Bernd Leno was forced off with what looked like a serious injury during the club’s meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brighton vs Arsenal

Mikel Arteta’s men are currently locked in action with the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium.

The matchup comes as hosts Brighton’s first since the COVID-19-enforced break.

Arsenal, on the other hand, were in Premier League action during the week, when the Gunners visited champions Manchester City.

A disjointed display on the part of the capital giants, though, eventually saw them put to the sword by 3 goals to nil.

As such, Arsenal no doubt headed into this afternoon’s proceedings desperate for a positive result, to keep their ever-diminishing hopes of European football alive.

But, as things stand, the Gunners are headed towards no more than a point.

With just over 10 minutes to go, the scoreline is level, after Nicolas Pepe’s stunning strike from the right-hand side was cancelled out by Lewis Dunk’s scrappy equaliser.

Leno crocked

As outlined above, though, their result this afternoon looks set to prove the least of Arsenal’s concerns.

This comes after one of the club’s key performers was stretchered off with an injury that looks set to keep him on the sidelines for a lengthy period.

The player in question is Bernd Leno.

Late in the first-half, German shot-stopper Leno, who, despite conceding 3 goals, put in a superb performance versus Manchester City on Wednesday, was involved in a coming together with Neal Maupay.

As the Arsenal star came out to collect what looked set to be a simple catch on the edge of his box, Brighton hitman Maupay jumped into Leno.

This knocked the 28-year-old off balance, and resulted in Leno landing awkwardly on his right foot.

The goalkeeper’s knee then shifted in nasty fashion, leaving Leno in agony on the Amex turf.

Arsenal’s medics quickly arrived on the scene, lifting the club’s no.1 onto a stretcher, before taking Leno straight down the tunnel.

As showcased below, though, the German international made sure to let Maupay know exactly what he thought of his challenge as he made his way from the pitch:
