Ilkay Gundogan critical of how Aubameyang’s Arsenal move happened

Ilkay Gundogan on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal move

In the latest edition of SportBild, Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has been interviewed about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal move.

Aubameyang joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund. The Gabonese international strike has become Arsenal’s record signing.

And Aubameyang began to pay off that transfer fee in his debut match last weekend against Everton.

As Arsenal recorded a comfortable 5-1 home win, Aubameyang scored in his first Arsenal appearance.

Yet, Aubameyang’s Arsenal transfer is painted in a bad light on Wednesday as Gundogan has had his say.

Aubameyang has been criticised for the manner in which he forced his move from Borussia Dortmund. The Man City midfielder has now commented:

I don’t know if I could have done it like Auba did.

Both parties live with the solution taken, although Dortmund loses a very, very good player. I very much hope that now peace is restored.

As pointed out by the good people at Sport Witness, Gundogan’s exit from Dortmund wasn’t the smoothest either.

Aubameyang’s Borussia Dortmund goodbye message

It’s also worth remembering what Aubameyang posted on social media after the Arsenal deal was confirmed.

The African star admitted the his behaviour in his final few weeks at BVB wasn’t the best. He wrote:

First of all sorry for everything that happened last month. But I wanted to move last summer, but it didn’t work and now it had to be.

Maybe it wasn’t the best way but everyone knows that Auba is crazy – and yes, I’m a crazy boy!

I made mistakes but never in bad intentions. I will never forget these four and a half years at Dortmund because you all gave the strength for the level I am now on.
