Matteo Guendouzi pinpoints when he fell in love with Arsenal

Matteo Guendouzi & Arsenal

Since joining from Lorient in the summer, Matteo Guendouzi has already become a fan’s favourite at Arsenal.

Guendouzi has started all five matches for Arsenal in the Premier League.

Yet, while Guendouzi played 90 minutes in the opening three matches of the season, he’s been given the hook in Arsenal’s last two Premier League outings.

Will he start again on Sunday against Everton? Or will Lucas Torreira be given his first start joining the Gunners from Sampdoria?

Guendouzi talks to L’Equipe

Over the weekend, Guendouzi has given a fresh interview with French daily L’Equipe.

As part of the discussion, the Gallic teenager has revealed when he fell in love with Arsenal.

Guendouzi has admitted that his first love was actually PSG. However the likes of Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieiria attracted him to the Gunners. The youngster said:

PSG was the club of my heart in France because I played there between the ages of six and 15.

Growing up, I watched other teams and I fell in love with Arsenal.

I wasn’t really interested in posters but I saw many, many videos.

Players like Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira made me love the club and I dreamt of going there.

When I see the Emirates and the statue of Henry, I think back to those videos.

From the moment Arsenal made an approach, everything was clear for me.

I’m not going to lie, I thought it would happen later in my career. But joining such a club at 19, any player would like that.
