Guardiola provides update on Manchester City duo Jack Grealish & Phil Foden ahead of West Ham

Manchester City vs West Ham

Manchester City are set to play host to West Ham United in one of several Premier League ties kicking off at 2 pm UK time this Sunday.

City head into the gameweek’s action sitting 2nd in the English top-flight table with 26 points.

The Sky Blues are just three points behind Chelsea at present, but, given how impressive Thomas Tuchel’s side have looked of late, even without the services of a proper no.9, City simply cannot afford to drop a single point if they hope to maintain their chase and retain the Premier League title this campaign.

West Ham, though, are once again enjoying a superb season under David Moyes and actually head into the upcoming round of fixtures just three points adrift of their upcoming hosts.

The Hammers, admittedly, do not have a great defensive record, however, and played out a Europa League tie on Thursday night.

The Londoners also have an awful record against Pep Guardiola. Apart from their recent penalty shootout win over the Citizens in the League Cup, West Ham have not beaten Man City in any competition since September of 2015, which is around a year before Guardiola arrived at the club.

Pep Guardiola on Foden & Grealish

And now, ahead of Sunday’s game, Pep Guardiola has spoken to the press.

When doing so, the Spaniard would provide an update on the wellbeing of two of his players, in the form of Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.

The City boss explained:

“They are training individual, they are training much better. Phil much better. Not today because it’s a day off. McAtee and Palmer helped us [against PSG] Hopefully they can be back soon to help us.”

Guardiola was also asked to give his thoughts on Ralf Rangnick potentially becoming Manchester United’s new manager:

“Is it confirmed? No. I had one phone call [with him]. He did an incredible job at Salzburg and Leipzig. Personally, I didn’t meet him. We will spend three hours to discuss possible candidates, when they are appointed we will talk. Right now Michael Carrick is the manager and that is my only concern [on them].”
