Liverpool vs Man City
The big match from an English perspective on Wednesday is obvious.
Liverpool take on Man City at Anfield tonight in a mouthwatering Champions League quarterfinal tie.
So far this season it’s one win each for City and the Reds. Those two matches have produced 12 goals.
Will the UCL quarterfinal end up with a hockey score? And who will come out on top?
Pep Guardiola’s special plan for Mo Salah
On Wednesday morning the Times have gone about predicting how the two sides will line up at Anfield.
In doing so, the broadsheet has revealed a potential Pep Guardiola plan for how to deal with Mohamed Salah.
As if anyone needed reminding, Salah has been unbelievable for Liverpool this season. He’s the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals, while he’s scored 37 goals in 41 games in all competitions.
But Man City have a plan to deal with the Egyptian.
Aymeric Laporte, Man City’s record defensive signing, is predicted to start the match at left-back.
Laporte’s job will be simple: try to contain Salah over the 90 minutes.
It’s worth noting that Laporte was prepped for his Salah job last weekend at Everton when he was given a similar job against Theo Walcott.
Laporte’s tactical job against Everton was picked up on by the Irish Times:
Another of Merseyside’s jet-heeled right wingers, Theo Walcott, provided Aymeric Laporte with a dress rehearsal.
It hinted at a game plan, with Laporte’s narrow station closing the channel between centre-back and full-back where Salah tends to raid.
